Before your first trip

Your first day

Ten minutes at home saves a dead battery on the road. Do these the day your AMPak arrives.

  1. Check the box.Battery, 45W charger, USB-C cord, and this manual.
  2. Charge it to full.Plug the 45W charger into the USB-C port marked POWER IN. The green light means fast charging is on. About 4 hours later, all four blue lights stay lit.
  3. Check your Mini’s ports.Unplug anything connected to the Starlink Mini, including the ethernet plug. The AMPak needs a clear path to seat.
  4. Do a practice run at home.Slide the AMPak on, power it up, and let your Mini connect. Then take it back off. See Setup.
  5. Know your numbers.A Starlink Mini typically draws about 20W, which gives you around 7 hours. Heavy streaming or snow melt mode uses more. See Runtime.
  6. Pack the charger.Top off from a wall, a vehicle’s USB-C port, or a solar panel between uses.
Good to knowThe AMPak replaces the Mini’s cord, so the Mini stands on the AMPak’s folding leg. Mounts that clamp the Mini may not fit with the battery attached.

Troubleshooting

Most fixes take less than a minute. Find what you’re seeing on the left.

If this happens Try this
The AMPak won’t slide all the way in Unplug everything from the Mini’s ports, including the ethernet plug, then slide it on again until it snaps.
The Mini won’t power on Make sure the AMPak is fully seated, then press the power button. Check the blue lights; charge it if none come on.
No lights when I press the button The battery is empty. Charge it with the 45W charger.
Charging is slow or the green light is off Use the 45W charger and cord in the box, or another USB-C PD charger of 45W or more, plugged into POWER IN.
My phone won’t charge from it Use the port labeled POWER OUT, and press the power button so the AMPak is on.
Runtime is shorter than expected Streaming, gaming, and snow melt mode draw more power. Cold weather also shortens runtime.
It won’t charge in cold or heat Bring it to between 32°F and 113°F and try again.
